The students were introduced to Francis Bacon's Art work and crazy world.

We read an article form the previous month's Time magazine about the Franc's Bacon retrospective at the Moma in New York

The students then made collages in the same compositional style as Bacon. That is a three dimensional space, with a pedestal and a figure on the pedestal. This was a great exercise and the results were really cool.

We then stated our own Bacon Paintings. The backgrounds were designed in Google Sketch Up. The program can manipulate shadows and create a great and logical 3D space. We edit it in Photoshop as well for color and value changes.
Here is my painted background. With out the texture add. Bacon always had a texture on a surface. I felt like I should add it at the end in case I need to make changes to the area.
I found a pedestal in the same perspective of my background, pretty close anyway.

I then used transfer paper to put my pedestal on my painting.

I then chose a photo to manipulate, the image is my son Pablo is messing around seemed like a good extreme image.

.

and then I cut out the background.

I altered the image of Pablo in Photoshop, first brightness and contract then hue and saturation and then liquefy. Bacon would have loved this effect!

I then used transfer paper to put Pablo in the painting.

Finally, adding texture to the base and rings like Bacon it all came together. Not quite Bacon but the best I could do. The great thing is the students did a better job.

Please check out the students' work.
