Magnetic Suspension Sculpture

This magnetic suspension sculpture is an aluminum-framed unfinished cube with the sides that are not included in the frame formed by magnets attached to cables.  The cable is not long enough so that the magnets ever touch, but it is just long enough so that the magnet on the cable enters the magnetic field of the magnet on the opposite side and appears to be floating unsupported.  The magnets used are made of neodymium, one of the most powerful magnetic elements in the world, which enables the magnets to stay suspended.  Aluminum is used for the frame because it is non-magnetic, an important quality necessary for the magnets to remain undisturbed and suspended.
